The serving size is one question; how, when and with what to actually take it is a separate, more practical one that most product labels do not answer. Here is what we can say with confidence, and where we are honest that it is preference rather than proven science.
The basic method
Take a rice-grain-sized portion, about 500 mg, using a clean, dry utensil (not a wet finger or spoon, which introduces moisture and contamination risk into the jar over time). You can take it directly, letting it dissolve in your mouth, or stir it into a warm drink until fully dissolved. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake of two servings.
Warm liquid, not boiling
Shilajit dissolves into warm water, tea, or coffee more easily than into cold liquid, and stirring it into a warm drink is the most common way people find it easiest to take, especially with the unflavored Pure jar. We would avoid boiling-hot liquid more out of general caution about degrading a natural compound with high heat than because of a specific study on the topic - we are not aware of research testing shilajit's stability at different temperatures, so this is a sensible precaution, not a proven requirement.
With food or on an empty stomach
We are not aware of research comparing shilajit taken with food versus on an empty stomach for either effectiveness or tolerability. Some people prefer taking it with a meal simply for digestive comfort, similar to how they might take other supplements; this is a matter of personal comfort rather than a documented requirement either way.
Morning or night
We are not aware of research establishing an optimal time of day for shilajit specifically. Many people take one serving in the morning and one in the evening simply to spread the twice-daily recommended intake across the day, not because a specific time has been shown to work better.
What we will not claim
You may see specific instructions elsewhere, like "always take with warm milk" or "never take after 6pm," presented as established rules. We are not aware of research behind claims that specific, and we are not going to invent that level of precision where none exists. The one requirement we will state plainly is the recommended serving itself: 500 mg, twice daily, not exceeded.
Consistency matters more than method
The method matters less than consistency and staying within the recommended serving. If you want the full picture on how much to take and why, see our dosage guide.
